Andrew Jackson, statue

The equestrian statue of General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans sits in the center of the Lafayette Park in Washington D.C., one block from the White House. Sculpted in 1853 by Clark Mill, it was the first statue of a person on horseback ever cast in the United States. In the photo, the statue is magnificently framed by bright gold autumn foliage on November 19, 2011. Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 - June 8, 1845) was the seventh President of the United States (1829-1837). Jackson became a national hero for his actions in the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815 over the British. (Photo by Jeff Malet)

Daniel Inouye

From above, members of the United States Capitol Police stand guard as Senator Daniel Inouye lies in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington D.C. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012. There, his colleagues and members of the public will pay their respects to the Senate’s second-longest serving member. The Democrat from Hawaii was a Medal of Honor recipient for valor in World War II. He died Monday from respiratory ailments at age 88. Lying in state is an honor typically reserved for presidents, bestowed only 31 times since the 1800s. According to tradition, Inouye's casket sat underneath the Capitol dome, atop the Lincoln catafalque, the platform built in 1865 to support Abraham Lincoln's casket when that president's body lay in state.
