A case before the United States Supreme Court could effectively bring an end to public sector unions. On Monday, January 11, 2016 in Washington D.C. the Court heard a case brought by non-union teachers in California seeking to overturn the current system in which public employees in 23 states and the District of Columbia must pay for the cost of collective bargaining, even if they disagree with their unions' demands. One of those suing is Rebecca Friedrichs, a third grade teacher from Los Angeles who has become the public face for the group. The Supreme Court's decision is expected by late June.Center of the American Experiment is a nonpartisan, tax-exempt, public policy and educational institution that brings conservative and free market ideas to bear on the hardest problems facing Minnesota and the nation.
