Million Veterans March to Re-open Monuments
Sunday, October 14 2013 - World War II Memorial, Washington D.C.
Thousands of protesters descended on Washington D.C. on Sunday Oct 13 to protest the closure of national war memorials as a result of the government shutdown. The target of their ire was President Obama. Calling themselves "The Million Vets March", they included former Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), "birther" Orly Taitz, and "Mall lawnmower man" Chris Cox. They were joined by a group of truckers staging their own protest against the government.
The protests coincided with a visit of World War II veterans from Washington State as part of the Puget Sound Honor Flight, including 96 year old Marilouise Kelly who served 5 years as a nurse near London England. These vets were met by their Congressman Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices by transporting these heroes to Washington D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials.
