The Federal City Brass Band recreates the sound and appearance of a Union Army regimental brass band of the 1860s. The instruments used by The Federal City Brass Band are originals dating to the mid-19th century, and come from the collections of band members. Sources of the music the band plays include original band journals and sheet music of the Civil War era. The uniforms worn by bandsmen are reproductions based on originals and made from the closest comparable wool and cotton fabrics, in some cases using vegetable dyes and original recipes from 19th century mills.
