V-E Day, National World War II Memorial, Civil Air Patrol
Kenneth Cowden (left) of Bellingham Wa., a private first class in the 7th Army, was General George S. Patton's driver for the second half of 1943 during the campaign in Sicily. U.S. Army Colonel Jayson A. Altieri (right) is serving as Chairman of the Civil Air Patrol's (CAP) Board of Govenours, whose mission is to provide oversight of CAP as a federally chartered non-profit 60,000 person organization. The Civil Air Patrol, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary, took part in the ceremony.
