Lincoln Tribute at Ford's Theatre
Photos of the candlelight vigil in front of Ford's Theatre, and wreath laying ceremony on the steps of the Petersen House commemorating the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s death on April 15, 1865. Many of the hundreds of attendees were dressed in authentic period costume. Speakers included Interior Secretary Sally Jewell; and James Swanson, author of Manhunt: the 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer. Actor David Selby recited "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman. Musical performances and taps by the Federal City Brass Band. Sailors from the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier also participated. The candlelight vigil started on April 14 at 10:15 PM, the moment of assassination. The wreathlaying ceremony started at 7:22 AM the next day, at the time of Lincoln's death.
