Christmas arrived early to the US Capitol West Lawn with the arrival and installation of the 47th Capitol Christmas tree. The 63 foot Sierra white fir from California's Stanislaus National Forest arrived in Washington D.C. on Monday morning on November 28, 2011, following a 20-day tour across the country. The tree will eventually be decorated with more than 10,000 LED lights and some 2,000 handmade ornaments. (Photo by Jeff Malet)
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Close to 50,000 breast cancer survivors and activists descended on the National Mall in Washington D.C. on June 5, 2010 for the 21st annual Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure.
