President Barack Obama awarded the 2010 National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal to 20 honorees in the East Room of the White House on March 2, 2011 in Washington DC. The National Medal of Arts honors artists and patrons of the arts. The National Humanities Medal honors individuals or groups whose work helped deepen the nation's understanding of the humanities. Current recipients included Van Cliburn, Philip Roth, James Taylor, Quincy Jones and Joyce Carol Oates among others. (Photo by Jeff Malet)

President Barack Obama honored Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival with a National Medal of Arts, the highest arts award given by the U.S. government. Ella Baff, Executive Director of Jacob's Pillow Dance, received the award from the President. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival at 78 is the longest running dance festival in America. Each summer the Berkshires in Massachusetts come alive with over150 dance performances, some of which are free.
