The equestrian statue of General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans sits in the center of the Lafayette Park in Washington D.C., one block from the White House. Sculpted in 1853 by Clark Mill, it was the first statue of a person on horseback ever cast in the United States. In the photo, the statue is magnificently framed by bright gold autumn foliage on November 19, 2011. Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 - June 8, 1845) was the seventh President of the United States (1829-1837). Jackson became a national hero for his actions in the Battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815 over the British.
