Washington D.C. has become a magnate for those demanding social and political change. Since Barack Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, these protests have taken on a special flavor with competing demands concerning the environment, immigration, health care, Wall Street., gay, gun and abortion rights. It also witnessed the birth of the Tea Party which held its first rally in Washington only three months after President Obama took office. The protests have been largely peaceful with protestors expressing themselves in novel ways. as recorded in these photographs.
