Former First Lady Laura Bush speaks at the National Book Festival. She read selections from her memoir, “Spoken From the Heart,” about her eight years in the White House. An Honorary Ambassador for the U.N. Literary Decade, she hosted the first-ever White House Conference on Global Literacy in 2006 to encourage international cooperation and build free societies through literacy. In 2001 she joined with the Library of Congress to launch the first National Book Festival in Washington. As first lady of Texas, Mrs. Bush founded the state wide Texas Book Festival in 1995. She has taught in the Dallas, Houston and Austin public schools. The 10th annual National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress, was held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
