Former Air Force Major Mike Almy speaks at a press conference with members of the Senate and supporters of Don't Ask Don't Tell. Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) is on the right. Almy was kicked out of the Air Force after superiors investigated his personal emails. The Senate just took a big step toward ending the military's ban on openly gay service members. By a vote of 63 to 33, the Senate voted to end debate on a bill repealing the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, opening the door for a final Senate vote on the standalone repeal bill passed earlier by the House. Later in the afternoon, by a vote of 65 to 31 the Senate voted to repeal the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. It was a rare Saturday session in the US Capitol in Washington DC on December 18, 2010. (Photo by Jeff Malet)
