Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) speaks at the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's inaugural address. The event was marked with speeches celebrating Kennedy's famous call on Americans to serve their country. Vice President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and JFK's daughter Caroline Kennedy were among the speakers at the ceremony in the Rotunda of the Capitol held a half-century after Kennedy's 1961 address. Many members of the extended Kennedy Family were in attendance. Lewis was a leader in the American Civil Rights Movement and chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), playing a key role in the struggle to end segregation.
