The APEC 2011 USA Host Committee Launch Reception took place on July 14, the at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C. It was the first official event held by the APEC 2011 USA Host Committee, marks the beginning of private sector involvement in the United States' hosting of APEC in 2011. This launch event is an important opportunity to signal that the United States business community stands strongly behind the United States' APEC chairmanship.

She was the first woman to serve as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and the third woman to serve as a Cabinet officer in a U.S. Presidential Administration.
