Maureen Wang at the National Portrait Gallery Kogod Courtyard (Feb. 14, 2015) - "Tunhuang Flying Apsara". An Apsara is a female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. The Tunhuang caves of China are famous for their ancient Buddhist murals depicting flying apsaras: fairies dancing and playing celestial music, flying amidst the rainbow. This is the costume made for our dance "By the Lotus Pond". This costume is an adaptation of a traditional Hanfu (traditional dress of Han Chinese people) designed for our dance depicting lotus flowers and lily pads.
Million Man March 20th Anniversary Rally
"Justice or Else". Thousands of black men and women from around the nation gathered to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March on the National Mall in Washington D.C. on Saturday October 10, 2015. Organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, the theme of the rally was "Justice or Else!", calling for policing reforms and changes in black communities.

Chanting "Let them in", hundreds of demonstrators rallied outside the White House in support of allowing Syrian refugees to enter the United States. The rally in Washington D.C. took place on Saturday, November 21, 2015. President Barack Obama has planned to allow 10,000 Syrian refugees to enter the United States. Earlier in the week, the U.S. House of Representatives had voted to make it harder for them to do so because of concerns that terrorists could pose as refugees and carry out attacks similar to those that recently took place in Paris. In addition, more than half of the country's governors have said they will no longer provide placement for the refugees.

One of the planes participating in the flyover was "FiFi," the only B-29 Superfortress still flying. The plane that dropped the atomic bomb was a B-29 Superfortress.

Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was the featured speaker at a rally celebrating Medicare's 50th Anniversary at Upper Senate Park on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on Thursday July 30, 2015. He was joined with other legislators, registered nurses and community members. The event was part of a national day of action, in over 25 U.S. cities, that called on policy makers to "Protect, Improve, and Expand" Medicare to cover all Americans with a single standard of quality care not based on ability to pay, under a theme of "Medicare is as American as Apple Pie." The coalition organizing the day of action included: National Nurses United, Physicians for a National Health Program, Alliance for Retired Americans, Campaign for a Healthy California, Healthcare-NOW!, Progressive Democrats of America, among others.
