Jeff Malet  > Events > Darfur "Tents of Hope" gathering in DC
This "Gathering of the Tents" took place Nov. 7-9, 2008 at the National Mall in Washington, DC. to create awareness and support for the people of Darfur, Sudan.
Communities across the US and abroad were invited to transform refugee tents into unique works of art that express a compassion and desire for peace for the people of Darfur, Sudan. The tents were decorated with a variety of images and scenes conceived and painted on the tents by individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds. The tents were subsequently donated and shipped to Darfur.
The hope is that these tents will help lead to the advocacy necessary to stop the genocide in Darfur.
The weekend activities included speakers, celebrities, live music, workshops and interfaith worship services.
I have attempted to chronicle the activities from the National Mall with these photographs.
Detailed information about the project can be found at http://www.tentsofhope.org
